Come From Away
Cairns Performing Arts Centre 9-11 Florence street, CairnsWhen 38 airplanes are forced to land on a small island in Newfoundland their 7,000 passengers and crew immediately double the population of the town of Gander. Totally unequipped to deal with the influx of stranded travellers, the Islanders spring into action to house, feed, clothe, and comfort the ‘come from aways’. This award-winning musical is based on real-life stories of generosity and the compassion of strangers. The show blends traditional musical theatre with Newfoundland orchestrations which has a strong Irish influence. Come From Away was first seen in Australia in 2019, and now the Cairns Choral Society Inc. is proud to present one of the first Non-Professional Productions in Australia. Winner of four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical (London production) and the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (Broadway), the show has captured hearts worldwide. A wonderfully well-received feel-good musical experience, Come From Away is a story about community, acceptance and charity. Cultures clash, and nerves run high, but uneasiness turns into trust, music soars into the night, and gratitude grows into enduring friendships.
