The Cairns Choral Society was formed in 1923. Its first outings were confined to Eisteddfod competitions between Townsville and Charters Towers. In the intervening years the Choral Society has been entertaining generations of Cairns audiences through recitals, regular concerts, our highly successful theatre restaurants and musicals; and of course our internationally acclaimed choir. The opening of our hall on Greenslopes street (in 1979) marked the culmination of many years of hard work by hundreds of Cairns citizens and the end of struggling to find suitable venues for rehearsals, storage and meetings.
Today, our patrons enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of our Greenslopes street complex and also the Cairns Performing Arts Centre where our musical productions take stage.
We look forward to a future still providing the very best in entertainment to Far North Queensland.
Membership is open to all from high school age upward. Come and join us, whatever your particular interest may be: singing with the choir, performing on stage or working backstage, we have a place for you!

The Hall

On Sunday the 5th of August 1979, our beloved hall was opened. This marked the culmination of many years of hard work by hundreds of Cairns citizens and the end of struggling to find suitable venues for rehearsals, storage and meetings. Our hall was opened by Dr Llew Edwards, the State Treasurer and Deputy Premier of Queensland at the time. The work, however, continued and it wasn’t completed until 1982 when new lighting equipment, a new piano and six new fans were purchased.
