The Fantasticks is a musical with music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones. It is the world’s longest running musical, having played more than 17,000 performances off-Broadway.

It tells a simple love story, simply staged, about two neighboring fathers who trick their children into falling in love by pretending to feud; then hiring actors to stage a mock abduction, so that the boy can heroically seem to save the girl, ending the supposed feud. However, when the children discover the deception, they reject the arranged love match and separate seeking experiences in the real world. Eventually they return to each other disillusioned but enlightened, and renew their vows.

The poetic book and breezy, inventive score, including such familiar songs as "Try to Remember," helped make this show so durable.

(Suitable for audiences over the age of 12)
