Les Misérables
Cairns Performing Arts CentreJanuary 19th - 27th
To close out its centennial celebrations, the Cairns Choral Society is thrilled to bring back, Les Misérables, to the Cairns stage. This epic tale of broken dreams, passion and redemption, is sure to touch the hearts and minds of Cairns audiences, once more.
Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who spends a lifetime seeking redemption. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France and the aftermath of the French Revolution, this timeless story of intertwined destinies reveals the power of compassion and the quiet evil of suffering. As Valjean’s quest for a new life carries him into Paris and to the barricades of the Student Revolution, he is hunted by Inspector Javert and also the ghosts of his past. Amidst a battle for the soul of Paris, he discovers the true meaning of love and salvation.
Performed in over 40 countries and 22 languages, and with a haunting, swelling score that features such famed songs as I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, and Bring Him Home, Les Misérables brings Victor Hugo’s revolutionary novel blazingly to life.

Will you join in our crusade and become a Les Misérables Sponsor for 2024?
WHY SPONSOR?
Our shows have continued to draw large crowds, but over recent years, rising production costs have greatly reduced profits. The effects and after-effects of COVID-19 also took its toll on our Society, as it did for many others.
We remain an amateur group who are all volunteers and are reliant on and grateful for the many people who give so generously of their time, energy, expertise and talent.
Profits from our shows help to maintain our premises on Greenslopes Street; support the choir that has been described as a local “treasure”; support the North Queensland Eisteddfod and fund future productions and other musical events.
With every production, we strive to maintain affordable ticket prices in order to allow the families of our local community enjoy our shows. Your sponsorship will help to offset our production costs and in turn lower our ticket prices enabling us to achieve that goal and allowing more members of our community the opportunity to share what we hope will be a memorable night of entertainment.
